
MARGAO After two police constables attached to Colva police station at Seraulim were killed by a speeding car on early Sunday morning, another fatal accident was reported at Gandhi Road, Raia on late Sunday night which claimed the lives of Kennedy D'Costa and his wife Noella Fernandes e D'Costa from Maina, Curtorim.
According to Maina-Curtorim police the couple had visited their family at Colva and were returning home when the tragic accident occurred.
The driver of the car has been arrested by Maina-Curtorim police for driving in a rash and negligent manner which led to the death of the couple.
According to the Maina Curtorim police the accident occured at around 10.15 pm on January 16 at Gandhi Road, Raia when the driver Nathaniel Menezes (24) from Curtorim was proceeding from Sonsoddo towards Curtorim and when he reached the Gandhi Road he dashed against the two-wheeler which was proceeding from Sondoddo towards Curtorim.
The seriously injured couple were rushed to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao but the doctor on duty declared them brought dead.
Police said the car driver fleed from the accident spot, but however PSI Deepesh Shekar of Maina Curtorim police station arrested him.
The police said the impact of the accident was so huge that both the victims were flung off their two-wheeler.
Police also disclosed that the car hit and damaged a parked bus before ramming into the two-wheeler. Both the car and the two-wheeler have been seized by police. Police said the bodies of the victims were handed over to their family after the post-mortem.
The Locals blocked the road for about an hour and alleged that the car driver was in an intoxicated state and demanded that the police bring him to the spot and conduct a breath test to ascertain the same.
Police said the couple is survived by their 10-year-old daughter.
