PANJIM: All India Mahila Congress observer Sheetal Mahatre on Saturday said that the statistics of last six months of crime against women in Goa were shocking, which means the last decade was a disaster.

Speaking to media persons at Panjim, Mahatre said that from January to August this year, 41 rapes, 30 molestation, 27 kidnapping, two domestic violence, five murders, two attempt to murder and four flesh trade cases were registered in the State. These are the registered cases at various police stations while unregistered cases will account to more than the double, she said.

The State government is busy poaching elected MLAs while there is chaos in the State. The Panjim Smart City shows there is no control on the corrupt officers who embezzled lakhs of rupees or the attack on journalist or the manhandling of Congress elected representatives in the government office and manhandling of a woman panchayat member where the police took a day to file FIR that too on the intervention of Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress president Beena Naik.

Stating that Goa needs a strong government having control over the administration, Mahatre said, “The people of Goa particularly women need to think about electing the government and to take note of the increasing figures. I am sure, if we calculate figures of the last decade, it will be wildest and it will be troublesome for any woman. I appeal to women to take cognisance of these figures and atrocities against women.”

Meanwhile, on the occasion of 40th foundation day, the All India Mahila Congress will launch its website on Sunday so as to reach and connect every State aiming to empower women to voice their demands fearlessly with confidence and be a part of the governance. She said that membership drive will also be launched wherein it has set a target to enrol 10,000 mahila Congress members.
