CUNCOLIM: It was a proud moment for Cuncolkars when Someya Kumari, originally from Bihar, but settled in Veroda, Cuncolim since 2005, secured 502nd rank at the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination.

Someya is the eldest daughter of Jitendra Singh (a Bihar native and retired Indian Army official) and Siyamani Devi (a housewife).  The family has been residing in Veroda, Cuncolim 

Someya did her schooling in Kendriya Vidyalaya from Class IV to VI and later studied at Maria Bambina Convent School, Cuncolim, till Class X.

After clearing Class XII (Science) from Damodar Higher Secondary School, Margao, she completed BTech Civil Engineering from Lovely Professional University, Punjab, and cleared MTech from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel NIT, Surat Gujarat.

Her research papers have been published in national journals.

For five years, Someya has been preparing for the UPSC exam. Though Someya did not taste success on her first three attempts, she succeeded in clearing the UPSC exam on her fourth attempt.

Of 11-and-a-half lakh students from across the country, who appeared for the exam, only 933 cleared the same.

Speaking to reporters she said, “If you work tirelessly and believe in yourself, you will be determined to achieve your goals.”

She has attributed her success to her parents, family, the Almighty, and her tireless efforts.

Someya’s parents said that their daughter made them proud and happy.
