PERNEM: A team of Water Resources Department (WRD) officials conducted a site inspection of the ongoing repair work of the damaged seawall at Keri and stated that the project would be completed by March 2024. Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar was also present on the occasion.
The repair work began in January 2023 at an estimated cost of 17.5 crore.
The Gabion wall and tetrapods which were erected after spending crores of rupees by WRD to protect the Keri beach from soil erosion had developed cracks and was on the verge of collapse while the tetrapods were buried inside the sand due to soil erosion and had done enough damage to the beach.
Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar said, “The repair work underway and after completion, the major requirement is beautification. We have proposed five parks to cater different age groups. There is an open-air gym for youth, a garden for children and senior citizens where locals will be provided employment,” the MLA informed.
Arolkar also stated that steps would be constructed at different places at the beach which will be used as access.
