PANJIM: Two-time Fatorda MLA and long-time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) loyalist, Damodar ‘Damu’ Naik, has been appointed as the new President of the Goa Pradesh BJP Committee. Naik’s was the sole nomination for the post.
The announcement was made by BJP National Secretary Sunil Bansal in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, outgoing State President and Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, and other senior party officials.
Speaking after assuming the role, Naik called on BJP workers and functionaries to refrain from posting internal party matters on social media platforms. “Do not air your grievances or disagreements publicly. The BJP is your home, your family, and as in any family, internal matters should not be discussed in public. Differences will arise, but we will come together as a family,” he stated.
Naik also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the BJP for their support, urging party workers to prepare for the upcoming 2027 elections. “A simple party worker like me has been entrusted with the role of President of the party with the highest membership. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of BJP workers,” he added.
National Secretary Bansal highlighted that Goa has remained in continuous development, largely due to the ‘double engine’ governance of the BJP. While passing on the responsibility to Naik, Bansal said, “Damu has the important task of taking the party forward in Goa, building upon the progress made by outgoing President Sadanand
Shet Tanavade.”
