PANJIM: The South Goa Sessions Court has deferred its decision on Datta Naik's anticipatory bail application to Monday. Naik, a businessman and writer, is facing charges of hurting religious sentiments.

Sahitya Akademi winner Datta Naik has filed for anticipatory bail before the Margao Session Court on Wednesday.

The bail plea had earlier come up before the court on Thursday 9th January 2025.

Naik allegedly made the remarks against all temples and priests and in particular the Jevottam Mutt at Partagal

Regretting his choice of words, Naik said, “I could have avoided the word ‘loot’. What I wanted to mean was to extract money.

Speaking on a local TV channel, Naik had said that he does not donate a single paisa to temples, temples are looting money, while referring to priests at Partgal Mutt

Canacona police had filed an FIR against Sahitya Akademi winner and Konkani writer Datta Damodar Naik

The complaint has been filed by Satish Bhat of Poinguinim, a senior member of the Hindu Sanghatna

Canacona police registered an offence and booked Datta Naik under Section 299 of BNS 2023.
