PANJIM: The chapel of Davorlim can now be upgraded to a church as now it has a new cemetery. One of the main requirements of a chapel being upgraded to a church is the existence of a cemetery.  MP Francisco Sardinha, who inaugurated the new cemetery, hoped and prayed that the Davorlim Chapel is upgraded to a church soon.

The new cemetery was constructed under the MPLAD funds, allocated by South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha. The cemetery was a long-pending need of the chapel. So far, the bodies from the village of Davorlim had to be buried at the Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim. The total cost of the project is likely to touch Rs 60 lakh.

Parish Priest of Our Lady of Rosary church, Fr. Gabriel Coutinho thanked Sardinha, the engineer, the contractor, and the people who helped in the completion of the work at Zhoriwado.

Fr Dominic Noronha, Chaplain also thanked Sardinha and said the cemetery was a much-needed facility for the people.

Sardinha said that Ex MLA of Navelim and RS MP Luizinho Faleiro and the chaplain had come to him and he allocated funds under MPLAD for the project. “I pray that the chapel may be upgraded to a church,” he said. “The cost of the project is over Rs 50 lakh and may touch Rs 60 lakh,” he added.
