Davorlim opposes road in educational hub area

MARGAO:  A road being constructed in the land acquired by the government for the proposed educational hub, has upset the residents of Davorlim Dicarpale village.  

Especially, since the locals have been long opposing the educational hub in the first place and they were aghast to find out, that unknown persons, had quietly constructed a road in the government acquired land, that leads up to the hill in the village.  

Locals were surprised to find that the construction of the road is near complete, with only the coat of asphalt remaining to be put above the rubble that has already been arranged. They took exception to the presence of machinery such as roller at the site, which is used to level the rubble already laid on the under-construction road. 

Sources in the village panchayat disclosed that nobody has sought any permission from the panchayat nor has the panchayat permitted any road construction in that area as the land belongs to the government.

Local youth have complained about the matter to the District Collector and Education Department. 

It may be recalled that government has acquired 1.15 lakh sq mts of land in the village to set up an integrated school complex, where schools from Margao will be relocated to decongest the district headquarters. The villagers have constantly opposed setting up the integrated school complex in their village on various grounds like the potential traffic congestion and how no jobs will be given to the locals.
