MANDREM: A Goan woman Marie Feliz Fernandes from Junaswada Mandrem in Pernem Taluka was deliberately run over by a Delhi tourist with his car on Friday.
The woman who was selling tender coconuts by the roadside was dragged under the car for 10 metres, due to which she died on the spot. Earlier the woman had several arguments over last few days with the Delhi tourist who was staying nearby not to bring his dogs to the areas. The reason was the woman Marie Feliz Fernandes too had dogs and the dogs would fight. On Friday there was a major verbal duel between Maria and the Delhi Tourist, accused. Deepan Rajeev Batra Age 23, from Delhi.
Minutes before she was killed, the mother of Deepan Rajeev Batra caught the Goan woman by the hair and threw her on the ground. Marie had just got up from the road and was telling her neighbour about the incident when Deepan rammed her with the car and dragged her under his car for 10 metres, instantly killing her on the spot.
Neighbours rushed to the spot only to find Marie's lifeless body. The brazen act of the Delhi Tourist Deepan has shaken not only Mandrem but whole of Goa, the way tourists care to hoots for Goans and Goan society. Deepan drove straight to Mandren police station and surrendered, the same evening. He has been arrested under Section 103, 281 of BNS. So far he has not been charged with 302 of BNS (murder).
