PERNEM: In response to the inquiry report submitted by the SDPO Pernem, Goa's Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar confirmed that appropriate action has been initiated against the Mandrem Police Inspector (PI). The inquiry report highlights several lapses on the part of the PI during the handling of a murder case, particularly concerning the safety of the accused in custody.

According to the report, the Mandrem PI failed to deploy sufficient police staff to manage the situation when locals began protesting, which compromised the safety of the accused. As the Investigating Officer (IO) of the murder case, it was the PI’s responsibility to ensure proper security measures were in place. However, the PI reportedly delegated the task of transferring the accused to lower-ranked staff, instead of overseeing the process personally, which was deemed negligent.

DGP Alok Kumar emphasized that such actions could have endangered the accused, and as a result, the matter is being taken seriously. The inquiry findings have led to a review of the actions of the PI, and necessary disciplinary measures will be undertaken. The DGP reiterated the importance of maintaining law and order and ensuring that police personnel handle such sensitive matters with the highest level of responsibility and professionalism.
