PANJIM: Every year the government cautions people against the use of Plaster of Paris Ganesh idols for Chaturthi. However, it is a sorry sight to see broken Plaster of Paris Ganesh idols washed on our beaches and river banks. In this edition of Street Voices, Herald TV spoke to people if the Government machinery had failed to control the import and sale of Plaster of Paris Ganesh idols in the State?
Devotees have immersed the one and half day Ganpati, as also the five day Ganpati. And many must have seen this sight. On the beaches, on river banks or near water bodies PoP Ganesh idols are washed ashore and pieces of these idols are there for all to see. Two issues arise –one is hurting or religious sentiments and send is pollution of the environment.
After the immersion of one and half day Ganesh idols, after two or three days the Goa State Pollution Control Board officials saw them. Is it not the responsibility of the GSPCB to raid the places that sell these PoP idols? Who is selling them? And those who are selling should have been arrested.
