PORVORIM:  Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao said that both the North and South Goa District hospitals should be named as Primary Health Centres, since there are no ICUs, specialized doctors and accident patients have to rushed to Goa Medical College.

There were 1,80,256 referrals to GMC, 15,842 accidents and 900 people have died in five year, Yuri Alemao stated during question hour on the first day of the 9th Assembly session on Monday March 24, 2025.

“What are the standards of the district hospitals according to the Indian Public Health Standards?. There has to be a physio, radiologist, dermatologist, cardiologists, ambulances etc. There is no ICU in the North Goa District Hospital, No neurologist.”
Yuri Alemao, Opposition Leader

“In the South Goa district hospital  there is not MRI, no functional ICU. Today the district hospitals are in a sorry state. They should be called Primary Health Centre,” Yuri told Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.

Government had tied up with the Central government HLL and they would provide all the facilities.

Rane shot back saying we have overshot the IPHS manual. It is not easy to maintain health care. It is difficult to retain doctors. We are working on appointing an orthopaedist and a neurologist. The referrals are coming down. The ICU at South Goa district hospital is functioning, Rane asserted.

“Are you trying to allow privatization of the South Goa District hospital?” Yuri asked. Health Minister Vishwajit stated that the government had tied up with the Central government HLL and they would provide all the facilities.
