PANJIM: The Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan has lashed out at the government for its legal and technical teams travelling business class to Delhi and staying in 5 star hotels, for the Supreme Court case which was listed at S.No 117. It also said that unless the Goa Government engages good senior advocates and declares Mhadei as tiger reserve, Mhadei cannot be saved. In this context, Herald Media asked people, “Do you believe that Goa government will be able to save Mhadei?”
On the Mhadei issue, they are not at all serious. Because when the DPR came and we had called a meeting at Sankhali on 16th January, at that time a DPR had come and there was a need to oppose the DPR. This government did not oppose the DPR. In the revised DPR they even added Surla village, which falls in Goa. They(Karnataka) even added the small bhandaras. They (Goa) did not oppose that too. This government is not serious. Now they have constituted PRAWAH for which there was no need. There cannot be any diversion because Mhadei is the only lifeline of Goa. So water should not have been diverted.
Mahesh Mhambre, Save Mhadei Save Goa
Goa government is not very serious. First there is the High Court verdict to make the Tiger Reserve to save Mhadei. If this is done, then Karnataka would never be able to put its foot in the door. They would never be able to divert the water. The two local MLAs are saying there are no tigers there. This to me appears like a joke. It’s unbelievable that they live in Sattari and cannot see the tiger. Why are they doing this? Are you supporting the government of Karnataka? Or do you want to finish the Western Ghats and make it a concrete jungle?

This government is not here for the rights of the people. They want to make profit by doing development and construction. Everybody knows how they fight for portfolios, do development and take commissions. This government knows how to fight the elections. Mhadei is not on their agenda. They are not bothered that people get water on a daily basis. They say big things such as “har ghar jal, har ghar nal.” They claim they have given everything, but nothing is done. Mhadei is a matter of the heart. Mhadei is a matter of our pride, because God has given it to us. Karnataka cannot stop the water. Activists have visited the Kalasa Banduri project, and we have seen how the diversion takes place. We had shown it to the government, but government officials have not even visited the place.
