PANJIM: Citing an improved COVID-19 situation in the State, the government has decided to re-open educational institutions from June 7. However, the teaching process will continue in a digital mode till further orders. 

Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) and Directorate of Education (DoE) in a circular issued on Friday directed re-opening of colleges and schools, within their jurisdiction from the coming week. 

DHE Director Prasad Lolayekar said that since the Covid-19 situation has improved, the government has decided to re-open all educational institutions under the directorate and as such college/university office staff will attend offices from June 7. 

Teaching staff from the colleges will attend their respective institutions from June 8, while the teaching staff from Goa University will commence duties from June 7. 

“The teaching-learning will take place only through digital mode. The students will not be allowed to come to educational institutions for any teaching, learning activities until further orders,” Lolayekar said.

DHE further said that staff of the educational institutions deputed on Covid-19 duties will continue to do their duties until they are relieved in a phased manner by their 

respective authorities to join back their institutions.

The examination of graduate and post-graduate students is due. Goa University in a recent circular directed the conduct the examination of Final Year students via offline mode from July 1 while the online examination will commence from June 21, for the programmes offered within the University campus. 

DoE has asked administrative and non-teaching staff of government, government aided, unaided, primary, secondary, higher secondary and special schools, to join duty from June 7. The staff will function for all working days for full working hours. 

Educational institutions in the State were shut since April 23 in view of the surge in COVID-19 cases. 

As per the academic calendar released by DoE in April, the Academic Year 2021-22 for primary, secondary and higher secondary will begin from June 21.
