MARGAO: The growing number of tourists visiting the once pristine Calwaddo stretch of Benaulim Beach has prompted local fishermen and water sports operators to demand upgrades and better facilities. During Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte’s recent visit to the beach stretch alongside a popular starred resort, Pele Fernandes, a representative of the water sports operators, raised these concerns with the government.

The beach is attracting both domestic and international tourists, but lacks proper facilities to accommodate them, Fernandes explained. He called for changing rooms for women and police presence to maintain order and prevent harassment of tourists, as well as timely beach cleaning.

“There are no proper facilities for the tourists visiting at this beach and hence I have requested the minister to provide them at the earliest,” said Fernandes.

The lack of amenities was evident during Khaunte's visit, as tourists were seen enjoying water sports without access to adequate facilities. Local MLA Venzy Viegas and other leaders also joined the discussion.

Khaunte assured the water sports operators that the necessary upgrades and facilities would be provided to improve the beach-going experience for tourists.
