PONDA: The NH-748 at Mollem would be expanded into a four-lane road and the PWD has begun the process of building a 1-km flyover that would be passing through the Mollem market. Locals had recently discussed the matter with the senior official Chandrakant Shetkar and after the meeting it was decided that the flyover would be built in the market area.
There are currently 39 shops doing business in the Mollem market which were already affected after the mining bans in the State. The flyover will affect the business as the as the vehicles passing through the market road would possibly opt to take the flyover once it's built.
" Local shop owners will be affected after the flyover is completed as not all the vehicles will pass through the market," said one of the shop owners Prasad Verekar.
"The welfare of shop owners needs to be looked after as after the flyover it might affect their business. I have written to the National Highways Authority of India to give relief to the shopkeepers," said Mollem sarpanch Kapil Naik.
