PANJIM: Former minister and former Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar has once again racked up the issue of expansion of Saligao Solid Waste Management Plant accusing sitting Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar for not opposing the proposal during his tenure as minister.
Parulekar on Tuesday urged the government to look for an alternate location for treating garbage from areas other than Saligao.
“Why did he (Salgaonkar) lie to the people. Our local MLA was in the Cabinet when expansion of Saligao solid waste management plant was given a green signal. What stopped him from objecting to this project then?” he said while speaking to a section of the media, on Tuesday.
The former tourism minister also sought to know if the comunidade and the local panchayat were taken into confidence before arriving at a decision for expansion.
“The nod for this project was granted in 2019 when Salgaonkar was in the Cabinet. Did you take into confidence the comunidade and panchayat which were linked to the project,” he questioned.
Parulekar has opposed the expansion while urging the government to look for an alternate location for treating waste from other places.
