SOLVA-RAIA: A Mass was held at Livra, Febres Church, Consua on Friday offered by Jesus and Mary Ministry of which late Fr Conceicao D’Silva was the founder.
The first death anniversary of Fr Conceicao will be observed on February 7, at St Michael’s Church, Orlim with a Eucharistic celebration followed by prayers and blessing of the grave.
The well-known Goan Evangelist died of heart attack last year before celebrating his 66th birthday (February 13, 2021).
Fr Conceicao, ordained in 1983, served in many parishes as an assistant, chaplain and was posted as parish priest of Our Lady of Snows, Raia, when he breathed his last.
Known for his preaching talent, Fr Conceicao was called at different places for sermons and conducted prayer services starting at Ambelim which he continued in Mandur, Carambolim, Taleigao and Raia. He was invited to preach in England and France where a sizeable Goan population exists. The Orlim priest established parish youth associations wherever he was posted.
Handful of buses carrying devotees from around the State would attend his prayers sessions held every Friday. Many received healing during the services he conducted.
He continued his virtual prayer sessions during the Coronavirus and helped his Raia parishioners with essential food packets to those needy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A strong proponent of Konkani in Roman script, Fr Conceicao was associated with the Dalgado Konkani Akademi besides being a convenor of the Konkani in Roman script movement.
