PANJIM: The Goa Medical College (GMC) became the first government hospital in the country to administer Pertuzumab, a novel addition to the treatment protocol for a subset of breast cancer patients exhibiting over expression of the Her2 protein free of charge. The full-fledged cancer hospital will be established in the State within next 16 months.

The Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim introduced the breakthrough treatment on World Cancer Day, first in the country to offer free of charge for its patients.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane informed that the GMCH became the first government hospital in the country to administer Pertuzumab, a novel addition to the treatment protocol for a subset of breast cancer patients exhibiting over expression of the Her2 protein free of charge.

Recognising the evolving landscape of cancer therapeutics, the medical community at GMC has now incorporated Pertuzumab, a second antibody, into the treatment regimen.

The Pertuzumab-Trastuzumab Fixed Drug Combination for Subcutaneous Use represents a significant advancement in cancer care. This injectable formulation is administered subcutaneously in the thigh, offering a streamlined alternative to the conventional hour-long intravenous drip. This approach not only enhances patient comfort but also ensures a more efficient delivery of the therapeutic agents.
