PANJIM/MARGAO: The Congress and the Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) on Sunday filed separate complaints against a Delhi-based news channel for alleged sting operation against some of the candidates fielded by them for the Assembly polls.

In its complaint, the Congress charged, ''A conspiracy has been hatched by the BJP-AAP duo to defame the Congress and three of the party candidates. With malafide intention, through a news channel called 'Hindi Khabar', they have released a fake, distorted and doctored video during the 48 hour silent period,'' the Congress said.

TMC in its complaint stated that a fabricated video of their leader and other leaders is getting viral on social media claiming it to be a sting operation. “Video is doctored and edited to mislead the people. This seems like pre-organised propaganda by a few political parties,” said TMC.

Churchill Alemao also filed a complaint with the Election Commission seeking registration of FIR against the Aam Aadmi Party and the TV channel for circulating a doctored video and hatching a conspiracy to defame him.

In the complaint he demanded immediate removal of the video from all platforms and registration of FIR for maligning his image and attempting to influence voters ahead of polling.

Churchill has also urged the Election Commission to take stern action against the AAP for violation of the silent period, besides public apology by both AAP and the said TC channel for circulating fake news.

A few days ago, speaking to Herald, Churchill had rubbished the news, which has gone viral about the alleged deal of his taking money assuring to join the BJP, if elected.

Churchill said that rivals are afraid of their defeat and hence they are defaming his image by making fake news in order to misguide the voters.

"I have made no deal of any sort with anyone. The news broadcast by one of the TV channels is totally false, and baseless. One thing to be kept in mind is that many have tried to finish my political career by doing sting operations earlier too, but people are with me", said Churchill.

Three Congress and one TMC candidate were shown in the video, which, however, was withdrawn by the regional channel.
