The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Goa, effective until May 17, warning of rainfall and thunderstorms across the region. Residents can expect light to moderate rain, with isolated heavy showers, thunder, lightning, and gusty winds reaching up to 50 km/h as the southwest monsoon advances into southern India and the Bay of Bengal. The IMD has advised the public to remain vigilant, especially in areas prone to waterlogging, and to avoid staying in vulnerable structures during adverse weather conditions.
The yellow alert also includes advisories for farmers and livestock owners: they are urged to drain excess water from crop fields, secure harvested produce, and provide shelter and adequate feed to animals during heavy rainfall. Vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses should take extra precautions against moderate heat and humidity. The IMD further recommends following traffic advisories, wearing protective clothing, and ensuring access to clean drinking water for both people and livestock during this period of unsettled weather.
