Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Saturday called on school teachers across the state to incorporate at least 15 minutes of daily yoga with students, emphasizing its role in promoting both physical and mental well-being.
Speaking at the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations at Dr. Shama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Bambolim, Sawant highlighted that yoga is not merely a fitness routine but a key pillar of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
“Yoga must become part of school culture. I urge teachers to practice yoga with students every day—it enhances focus, discipline, and overall health,” he said, noting that many teachers are already undergoing yoga training through various organizations.
He further underscored that the broader Fit India Movement aims to ensure the good health of every young citizen.
“We shouldn’t do yoga just because we’re told to. Do it for your own well-being and your family's,” Sawant remarked.
Acknowledging yoga’s international significance, he added, “Yoga is India’s gift to the world. Today, it is practiced in over 180 countries, uniting people across borders—thanks to PM Modi’s global push.”
A regular yoga practitioner himself, the Chief Minister encouraged citizens to adopt it as a daily lifestyle habit, especially in light of rising health issues.
“Yoga enhances happiness and well-being. With increasing cases of blood pressure, diabetes, and even cancer, yoga acts as a powerful preventive tool,” he said.
