30K plus cases booked by Margao Traffic Cell till September

Driving in ‘no entry’, riding without a helmet led to MVA violations; ‘poor parking sense’ was another major defiance

MARGAO: In a significant crackdown on traffic violations during the current year, the Margao Traffic Cell booked a total of 30,664 cases till September.

The violations encompassed a range of offences, including driving without a licence, seatbelt, helmet and permit, as well as instances of driving under the influence of alcohol, said Traffic Cell Police Inspector Sanjay Dalvi.

Notably, 447 individuals were found driving under the influence of alcohol primarily in the town and its nearby areas.

Driving licences were seized, and case papers were forwarded to the relevant department.

Among the cases, 363 individuals were booked for using a mobile while driving, and 2,451 were booked for not wearing a helmet, resulting in fines.

Additionally, 214 individuals were penalised for driving without a seatbelt.

107 were booked for jumping the red light signal,14 for reckless driving,56 for overtaking,151 for carrying excess passengers, 193 for carrying passengers in cabin, 9,245 for dangerous parking, 581 for without proper light, 469 for driving with dazzling light, 929 for driving the car with tinted glasses, 1,113 for keeping vehicle in no parking zones, 9,306 for entering into no entry area, 736 for unauthorised parking, 475 for driving without number plates, 24 for modified exhausts, etc.

Apart from taking action against traffic violators, police personnel from Margao and Colva Traffic Cells are involved in educational initiatives.

The officials of the Margao and Colva Traffic Cells visited educational institutions to educate students about traffic rules, regulations and safety measures.
