PANJIM: In all 5,037 cases were booked during Road Safety Week by all traffic cells across the state, Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Prabodh Shirvoikar said.
He said, “We have put up various proposals like having signages on roads where they are required. Stress was on education. During this as many as 8,668 people including school students, truck drivers, pedestrians and workers were educated. We also organised special drives under which 268 people were booked for indulging in drunk driving. They have been referred to court and their driving licences will automatically get suspended.”
The SP said, “As many as 368 persons were booked for over speeding, 147 people were booked for speaking over phone while driving, 34 people booked for jumping signals, 236 cases booked for not wearing seat belts, 93 cases booked for having more than one pillion rider on two wheeler, 1,536 cases booked for driving without helmets, 28 cases booked for having tinted glass, 39 cases booked for driving vehicle without having number plates, 83 cases for having fancy number plates.”
Stating that the drive will continue, he appealed to people to obey the traffic rules and not to use the carriageway.
He urged people not to drive while being drunk.
