MARGAO: At a mega mutation camp held on Saturday at the South Goa District Collectorate, a total of 685 mutation files were processed and 94 cases disposed of on a single day. The event aimed to streamline the backlog of mutation cases, providing relief to the general public.

Srinet Kothwale, Additional Collector I, reported that seven mamlatdars conducted hearings during the camp, successfully addressing a significant number of pending cases. Out of the total, 94 mutation cases were certified, 115 files were verified, and 13 notices were issued. Additionally, 591 duplicate files were rejected, helping expedite the overall process.

The camp, attended by 177 individuals, including 42 advocates, was organised following a representation made by the South Goa Advocates Association. The association’s president, Adv Prasad Naik, praised the initiative, noting that it prevented the public from falling prey to agents charging hefty fees for expedited mutation services. Naik expressed hope that similar camps would be held in all talukas across Goa to further ease the burden on citizens.

The success of the camp, particularly in Salcete taluka, was attributed to officials’ focus on public service, with Naik emphasising the importance of making government departments more public-friendly. Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar explained that the previous backlog had been due to staff being assigned to election duties.

This initiative brought significant satisfaction to attendees, as it cleared long-pending mutations without the need for repeated visits to the collectorate.
