The prestigious Lachit Barphukan Police Academy (LBPA) in Dergaon, Assam, today hosted a grand Passing Out Parade for 700 Goa Police recruits, marking the conclusion of 43 weeks of intensive training.

The graduating batch comprised 569 men and 131 women who underwent rigorous instruction in physical fitness, mental resilience, field tactics, law and order management, and weapons handling.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant attended the ceremony as chief guests, joined by senior police officials from both states and proud family members.

The recruits had arrived in Dergaon on 4 October 2024 via a special train. In a first, the training batch also included personnel from the police forces of Assam and Manipur, fostering inter-state cooperation and knowledge exchange.

The Passing Out Parade featured a disciplined march past, oath-taking, award distribution, and a thrilling display by the “Panthers on Wheels” unit. Senior police leadership from both states reviewed the parade.

In his address, Goa CM Dr Pramod Sawant expressed gratitude to the Assam government and LBPA for delivering “excellent and high-quality” training. He said regular feedback from the recruits had been overwhelmingly positive, adding, “When our officers train in another state and return home with new skills, it is a matter of great pride for us.” He emphasised that the programme had strengthened the bond between Goa and Assam, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Akhanda Bharat.

Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the event as a proud moment for Assam, noting that LBPA had successfully trained the Goa Police cadets over 10 months. He thanked Dr Sawant for his trust and stressed that such collaborations promote national unity and strengthen India’s security.

“Inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, this academy is a matter of pride for Assam and the country. We are always ready to train police personnel from across India,” Sarma said.

Recognised as one of India’s leading police training institutions, the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy has produced thousands of officers who continue to serve with distinction nationwide.
