PANJIM: A 75-year-old woman from Uguem-Sanguem on Wednesday observed a day-long hunger strike at Azad Maidan, Panjim, fearing that her house will be demolished next month.
However, when contacted, Sanguerm Deputy Collector Milindra Velip clarified that till date no order has been passed and that her matter is being heard before him.
The woman Bomi Dau Zore was allotted the land in 1991 under the 20-Point Programme at Vikasnagar, Uguem and constructed her house in 2003. She alleged that her two neighbours had an eye on her property as she was staying alone after her three daughters got married.
Zore alleged they her neighbours want to encroach on her plot and were harassing her. She said that her matter was pending before the Sanguem Deputy Collector and that her advocate told her that the house would be demolished on November 5. She also disclosed that she had now changed her lawyer.
When contacted, Adv Anand Gaonkar, who was earlier appearing the woman, said that as on date no order has been passed by the deputy collector in her matter. “How can she assume and presume that her house will be demolished. The matter is not about demolition of her house but it is pertaining to construction of steps by her. The matter has been posted for arguments but in the meantime her relative came to me and took the file. I gave no objection and also gave a copy of a complaint written by me on her behalf.”
