CALANGUTE: The Calangute police in order to enhance public safety and maintain law and order with the start of the new tourist season have intensified its drive against touts in the coastal belt.
“The police have launched a comprehensive campaign to ensure a safer and more pleasant environment for locals as well as tourists and to curb nuisance elements and illegal activities,” Calangute police said.
“Action has been taken against a total of 76 touts in the last 15 days under this campaign. The tourism department has collected fines of Rs 3.80 lakh with each tout fined Rs 5,000. Apart from this, action has also been taken against 15 hawkers for harassing tourists in the beach-belt,” police said.
