Reacting to recent arrests related to gambling in Canacona, Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar on Tuesday said that strict action has been taken against gambling in the region over the past two years.
“We have seen families getting destroyed because of gambling, and that is why we took firm steps to curb it,” Tawadkar told reporters. He added that nearly 90% of gambling activities in Canacona have been shut down during this period.
The Speaker’s comments come amid heightened vigilance and continued crackdowns on illegal gambling operations in the coastal constituency. He reiterated his commitment to protecting the social fabric of the community and warned that enforcement efforts will continue to eliminate any remaining illegal activities.
