Ten days after a tense face-off in Odxel between Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserrate and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Cecille Rodrigues and Francis Coelho, the AAP has raised serious concerns over police inaction. The incident took place amid growing public anger over severe flooding in the area, which locals blame on unchecked hill cutting. When AAP leaders visited the site to assess the situation, they were confronted by the MLA and her supporters. Rodrigues later alleged that Monserrate used abusive language and physically pushed her, prompting AAP to file a counter-complaint the same day.
Despite the prompt filing of their complaint, AAP leaders claim that no FIR has been filed against the MLA or her supporters, while police quickly registered an FIR against AAP members based on Monserrate’s version of events. On Saturday, AAP leaders visited the Panaji Police Station, questioning the delay and demanding equal legal treatment. They accused the police of acting with bias and urged authorities to uphold the law impartially. The incident has sparked broader concerns about political interference in policing and the importance of fair and balanced law enforcement.
