The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Goa has welcomed the passage of the Goa Scheduled Tribes (ST) reservation bill in both houses of Parliament, describing it as a long-overdue victory for the state’s tribal community. The party has urged the government to complete the remaining procedures swiftly so that the ST community can benefit from reservation in the 2027 Assembly elections.
AAP MLA from Velim, Engr. Cruz Silva, praised the bill’s approval but pressed for strict measures to ensure proper use of funds earmarked for tribal welfare. “Funds meant specifically for the ST community remain misused or unutilised year after year. This must be addressed by the government,” he said.
AAP ST Wing Vice President Vinay Velip congratulated the community, pointing out that the bill’s passage came after a 22-year struggle. “This is the victory of the youth and the people of the ST community. Both Congress and the BJP ruled during this period but failed to deliver justice sooner,” he remarked.
