MARGAO: The village panchayat of Chinchinim-Deussua has expressed serious concerns about the safety of commuters due to old electricity poles that remain along the roadside. On Thursday, the panchayat urged the Electricity Department to address this issue promptly.
Panchayat members pointed out that these old poles, which are still standing despite the installation of new ones, pose significant hazards for both vehicles and pedestrians, particularly in high-traffic areas. They emphasized the urgent need for removal to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
Frank Viegas, Sarpanch of Chinchinim-Deussua, highlighted in a letter to the Electricity Department that while new poles have been erected, the old poles and associated debris have been left behind. This situation is causing inconvenience and obstructing pathways, thus creating safety risks for the community.
Viegas urged the department to take immediate action to clear the old poles and debris, ensuring that the village remains safe and accessible for its residents. The panchayat is committed to maintaining a clean and secure environment for the community.
