Activist Tara Kerkar has strongly criticized the government for its failure to take timely action against illegal live gaming operations at casinos in Goa. Speaking out on the issue, she questioned the government's commitment to its previous promise to shut down the casinos within 100 days, asking, "When will these 100 days actually come?"
Kerkar expressed frustration over the government's apparent lack of urgency in addressing the illegal activities taking place in casinos, despite repeated assurances. Her comments highlight growing concerns among activists and the public regarding the unchecked expansion of the casino industry in Goa.
Tara expressed strong criticism towards the government's handling of the casino industry in Goa, highlighting the stark contrast between the treatment of common citizens and casino operators. "It is often seen that if the common man fails to pay their electricity or water bills, their connections are conveniently cut by the government," she remarked, pointing out the strict actions taken against ordinary citizens. However, she noted, the Rs 350 crore associated with casinos continues to be overlooked, with the government seemingly promoting them instead of addressing the issue.
Tara referenced promises made by the late Manohar Parrikar, who had vowed to do away with the casinos in Goa, but she stressed that no tangible action has been taken since. "The government had promised to shut down the casinos within 100 days, but nothing has happened," she stated.
She further added that the proliferation of casinos in Goa has had a detrimental impact on the youth of the state, claiming that they have contributed to ruining the future of many young individuals. Tara's remarks underline the growing frustration with the government's failure to address the casino industry's influence on Goa's social fabric.
