PANJIM: Social activists on Saturday flayed the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) for deciding to grant in-principle approval to World Peace University at a land belonging to Comunidade of Tivim.
Activist Xencor Polgi said, “It appears that in the name of investment promotion, the government is trying to capture comunidade land and has accepted the proposal to develop a private university at 2 lakh square metres of land. Earlier, land was also given to the Investment Promotion Board. The question is what do we benefit for this? It appears that there is a conspiracy to sell. It appears that the government is determined to destroy the land of Goa.”
“Earlier it destroyed mining, then hills and now it wants to finish land in the state by bringing mega projects. Where will we get land from if we require it in future? Comunidade land is required for our future generation. If the government wants to bring projects, it can do so on private land. Why only on Comunidade land?” he asked.
Tanoj Adwalpalkar said, “Tivim is a place with abundant natural beauty. If projects continue to come up there, the place will be destroyed. The government has no money to improve Goa University nor does it have money to repair the roads but it is promoting private university.”
