PANJIM: Adv Ashwin Damodar Bhobe from Goa was among five lawyers who were elevated as Judges of the Bombay High Court on Friday.
There were sworn in as additional judges by the Bombay High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Updhyaya at Mumbai.
Besides Bhobe, the other Judges who were sworn in were Nivedita Prajash Mehra, Prafulla Surendrakumar Khubalkar, Rohit Wasudeo Joshi and Advait Mahendra Sathna.
They will serve for a period of two years from Friday following which they may or may not be made permanent judges of the High Court. With their new appointment, the strength of Bombay High Court increased to 69 as against the sanctioned strength of 94.
The Union Ministry of Law and Justice had notified the elevation of the five advocates as additional judges of the Bombay High Court on October 23.
In September, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended their appointment as judges, after the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court had made the recommendation for the elevation of these five lawyers on January 19.
