MARGAO: The Advertisement posters seen in Karnatak seeking applications from drivers to drive Kadamba EV buses has stirred a controversy with the Goa Forward Party (GFP) raising strong objections against the same and accusing the State government of denying local Goans job opportunities.

The GFP claims that the decision to seek candidates from outside Goa for these vacancies is a clear betrayal of Goan workers, particularly at a time when unemployment in the state is at an all-time high.

According to GFP President and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, the State government’s move shows a disregard for the plight of Goan workers struggling to make ends meet.

Sardesai expressed his shock over the reports of the jobs being advertised in Karnataka while local Goans are battling unemployment. In a strongly worded statement, he questioned the intentions of the government, particularly given Goa’s rising unemployment figures, which have recently surpassed national averages.

Sardesai urged the government to immediately withdraw the advertisements and hold accountable the company responsible for leasing the buses. “What’s wrong with the Government of Goa?” Sardesai asked, adding that it was incomprehensible for the administration to ignore local workers in favour of non-Goans.

He further criticised the ruling BJP government for what he called its “double engine” policies, which he believes have worsened the employment crisis in the state.

The GFP leader also demanded that the government clarify its stance on the issue, questioning whether the administration expects Goans to seek employment in other states while allowing outsiders to take jobs within Goa.

Clarifying over the matter KTC Chairman and MLA Ulhas Tuenkar said that the advertisements have been issued by Olectra company from whom the government has procured 85 EV buses. “As per contract with Olectra, the company is responsible for maintenance, charging, appointment of driver, etc, while the conductor is a KTCL employee,” Tuenkar stated.

He however added that the company has been given strict instructions to give first preference to Goans and only if local drivers are not available, persons from other states should be appointed.
