MARGAO: The Ravindra Bhavan in Margao (RBM) is preparing to host several events for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and has announced an extension for tiatr shows in the main auditorium until October 25, providing a 10-day reprieve from the previous deadline of October 15.
This extension, which has offered some relief to tiatr directors, comes as the administration awaits the tender for renovation works related to IFFI, expected to be issued within the next eight days, Earlier, a meeting held at RBM had informed all tiatr directors and producers about the upcoming IFFI events, raising concerns over the potential closure of the Pai Tiatrist Hall for performances, which had disappointed many artists.
“Given the audience’s enthusiasm for tiatr shows and the ongoing repair work, we have decided to extend the date for staging tiatr performances until October 25,” said Rajendra Talak, Chairman of RBM. He noted that while minor repairs are currently underway, the focus remains on ensuring that tiatr directors can continue their performances alongside preparations for the film festival.
“It is not that we are solely focused on screening films for IFFI; supporting our local tiatr community is equally important,” Talak asserted.
Renowned tiatrist Pascoal de Chicalim expressed confidence that the temporary closure of the auditorium wouldn’t significantly impact his performances. “I’ve already staged a few shows in Margao, and I’m planning more, especially with the upcoming exposition of Saint Francis Xavier in mind,” he stated.
