Surely good news for Remo Fernandes fans, as the renowned Indian pop and rock icon is now on the road to recovery after undergoing urgent burr hole surgery to treat a life-threatening brain condition following a fall in Spain.
The 71-year-old musician initially felt fine after falling in his hotel room, but in the weeks that followed, he developed persistent headaches and balance issues. An MRI scan later revealed a progressively worsening subdural hematoma — a condition in which blood collects between the brain and skull, dangerously increasing cranial pressure.
Following consultations with neurosurgeon Dr. Oscar Alvas in Porto, Portugal, Remo was advised to undergo immediate surgery as the bleeding was worsening rapidly. The burr hole procedure, a minimally invasive technique, involved drilling a small opening in the skull to drain the accumulated blood and relieve pressure.
He has now been discharged from the hospital and is back at Belinda’s house. He also posted a picture on Facebook with the caption: “Discharged from hospital and back to Belinda’s house, where she’s beautifully looking after me as I convalesce and gradually get back to normal and hopefully better.”
Due to the health risks associated with flying so soon after surgery, Remo cancelled his much-anticipated performance at the UK-Goan Festival in London, scheduled for August 3, 2025. In a heartfelt message to fans, he expressed gratitude for the 1,600 messages of concern he received after announcing the surgery — and humorously noted that only 700 messages followed his successful recovery update, jokingly wondering if some were hoping for a more dramatic twist.
Remo is expected to make a full recovery within four to six weeks, as fans continue to send him love and good wishes from around the world.
