PANJIM: The Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa police on Saturday said that it has seized Rs 12 lakh worth narcotic drug DMT (dimethyltryptamine).
The seizure is follow up of the raid by ANC earlier this week when Rs 2.5 lakh worth drugs were seized from a person from Kerala identified as Dheeraj Mathew.
The accused was taken into police custody after producing him before the magistrate. He was thoroughly interrogated by the ANC sleuths after which a house search of the rented premises of the accused was carried out. During the search, the ANC recovered and seized 120 grams of DMT worth Rs 12 lakh. An additional 50 grams of charas worth Rs 25,000 was recovered from his rented house, police said.
This was the first instance of the DMT drug being seized in Goa.
Earlier, the ANC had said that there is likelihood of the drug being served in the hinterland areas of Goa as a psychoactive beverage during a ‘spiritual’ South American origin ceremony called as Ayahuasca.
The sleuths of ANC are further investigating to ascertain the linkages.
and more arrests are likely to happen, police said.
The seizure was conducted under the supervision of PI ANC Sajith Pillai and active participation of DySP ANC Nerlon Albuquerque and SP ANC Tikam Singh Verma, IPS.
