Anganwadi Workers Union Stages Protest at Azad Maidan Against Labour, Farmer Policies

The Akhil Goa Rajya Anganwadi Karmachari Sanghatana, affiliated with AITUC Goa, staged a protest at Azad Maidan on Tuesday in solidarity with the nationwide general strike. The agitation was part of a broader movement opposing the labour and farmer policies of both the central and state governments.

Anganwadi workers from across Goa gathered in significant numbers to voice their concerns over what they described as anti-worker and anti-farmer measures, including changes to labour codes, lack of social security, poor wages, and neglect of grassroots-level schemes.

Union leaders condemned the government’s approach, saying that policies being pushed at both levels are dismantling labour rights, marginalising farmers, and undermining the welfare of frontline workers like anganwadi staff.

“The government must stop exploiting scheme workers and address our long-pending demands, including better wages, social security benefits, and recognition as government employees,” a union representative said during the protest.

The Azad Maidan demonstration was one of many held across the country, as trade unions, workers' collectives, and farmers' groups united to pressure the government into rolling back contentious reforms and ensuring fair treatment for India's labour force and agricultural community.

The union has warned that if their concerns are not addressed, they will intensify their agitation in the coming weeks.
