MARGAO: A resident of Arlem, Raia, who was lured abroad with the promise of a data entry job but ended up trapped in a cybercrime operation in Myanmar, has finally returned home.

The victim, identified as Asish Wagh, was rescued through the coordinated efforts of the Indian Embassies in Myanmar and Thailand. The Maina-Curtorim Police have registered an offence under sections 370, 370(1), and 420 of the IPC, along with Section 10 of the Emigration Act, 1983.

According to the police, the case was initiated after a complaint was filed by Punam Wagh, the wife of the victim. She reported that a woman named Hazel Fernandes from Old Market, Margao, introduced herself as an overseas recruiting agent and convinced her husband, Asish, to accept a job offer for data entry work on the Myanmar border. However, upon arrival, Asish was physically and mentally exploited and forced to work in a fake bitcoin operation along with other Indians and foreign nationals.

Upon receiving the complaint, the police contacted the Indian Embassy, which coordinated with its counterparts in Myanmar and Thailand. Through their persistent efforts, Asish was eventually rescued and has now been reunited with his family in Goa.

SP Sunita Sawant has issued a public warning, urging people not to fall prey to such fraudulent job offers.
