MARGAO: In a significant development, the All Goa Government Pensioners' Association has pushed for the timely processing of eligible pension cases following a recent court ruling.

The association, established in 1998 to advocate for pensioners’ rights, secured a major victory in the Goa High Court, which granted over 7,000 pensioners two years of additional service benefits.

The court’s decision in Case No. 835/2017 has prompted the Director of Accounts to issue a circular on August 6, 2024, mandating all government departments to process eligible pension cases by September 30, 2024. This deadline is now at the forefront of the association's efforts, as they urged the departments to comply with the circular's requirements.

Amancio Fernandes, Association president, emphasised the importance of this development, stating, “We are committed to ensuring that all eligible pensioners receive their rightful benefits. This court ruling is a landmark achievement for our members and their families.”

The association is particularly focused on assisting pensioners who were compulsorily retired at the age of 58, encouraging them to actively follow up on their claims. To address this and other pressing matters, the association has scheduled its Annual General Body meeting for September 28, at 10 am in the Grace Church Hall, Margao.

Beyond pension advocacy, Fernandes explained that the association provides a range of services to its members, including financial and legal assistance, and organises various activities for seniors. The association also collaborates with other organisations to promote the overall well-being of the State.

, leveraging the extensive experience of its retired government employee members.

The Association’s recent legal victory underscores its commitment to improving the lives of government retirees.

The Association claimed it has been instrumental in uniting pensioners and their dependents, and serves as a platform for addressing grievances and promoting social, cultural, spiritual, and educational activities for seniors.
