PONDA: The famous traditional Banastarim Chaturthi matoli bazaar will be held on September 4 and 5.

Speaking to the media, Bhoma-Adcolna Sarpanch Damodar Naik highlighted the long-standing tradition of the Banastarim matoli bazaar, where many vendors purchase matoli items in bulk to sell across various parts of Goa, including Panjim, Ponda, Margao, and Mapusa. These matoli items are supplied by farmers from different areas of Priol, such as Savoi-Verem, Bethki, Kundaim, Veling and Cuncoliem.

The market offers a wide variety of Chaturthi materials, and during the two-day event, large crowds gather to buy not only matoli items but also other goods, including ready-made garments.

Naik noted that there was a time when the market space was insufficient, and vendors had to sell their goods in the rain. However, with the recent construction of the new market complex, both vendors and visitors now benefit from a roof and other basic facilities. The number of vendors has increased in this market, and Naik urged them to keep the area clean and avoid littering.
