
In an official statement, Fr Patricio Fernandes, SJ, Rector of the Basilica, announced that religious services for the Catholic faithful will be conducted during this period. All services will be held in English, and the closure is aimed at ensuring a prayerful and solemn atmosphere during the most sacred days in the Christian liturgical calendar.
Schedule of Holy Week Services:
Maundy Thursday (April 17): The Lord's Supper liturgical service will begin at 5 p.m.
Good Friday (April 18):
Way of the Cross: 10 a.m.
Three Hour Agony: 12 noon
Divine Mercy Novena: Following the agony
Passion of the Lord liturgical service: 3 p.m.
Holy Saturday (April 19):
Mater Dolorosa devotion: 10 a.m.
Easter Vigil service: 11:30 p.m.
Easter Sunday (April 20):
Mass timings: 7 a.m., 8 a.m. (Konkani), and 9:15 a.m. (English)
The Basilica authorities have requested the cooperation of tourists and visitors during this time to respect the sanctity of the religious observances. Regular visiting hours will resume after 11 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
