Demarcation work for the proposed highway project in Bhoma commenced this week in the presence of key officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), including the Executive Engineer (EE), Assistant Engineer (AE), and other staff. Sanjay Naik was also present at the site as part of the ongoing groundwork.
The demarcation follows Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s earlier directive to carry out local-level boundary marking with engineers on-site to explain the project scope and address public concerns. The CM had appealed to residents to cooperate with authorities as they identify properties that fall within the project’s alignment.
PWD teams, during their visit to Bhoma, began the process of marking boundaries along the proposed highway route. However, tensions escalated when measurements reportedly extended into areas near a local temple, triggering heated exchanges between officials and concerned residents.
While the demarcation is seen as a significant step toward progressing the infrastructure project, the resistance from locals highlights ongoing concerns over land acquisition, cultural sites, and the transparency of the process.
Officials have yet to release a formal statement regarding the incident, but further dialogue with the community is expected as the project advances.
