Bicholim MLA Flags Landslide Risk on New Bypass, Questions Road Safety Standards

Bicholim MLA Chandrakant Shetye on Monday raised serious concerns in the Legislative Assembly regarding the growing apprehension among residents and daily commuters using the newly-constructed Bicholim Bypass.

During Zero Hour, Shetye highlighted the recurring issue of landslides along the route, which he said are creating significant safety risks.

“Yet again today, large rocks and boulders were found dislodged and strewn across the road,” Shetye said, adding that such repeated incidents are intensifying fears about the structural stability of the bypass and raising questions about the adequacy of its design and construction.

He said the community is demanding accountability, especially from the department concerned, and wants to know whether any punitive action will be taken against the contractor responsible.

He said, “The current condition suggests the road may have been poorly designed.”
