PONDA: In a powerful face-to-face collision between a bike and a car at the accident-prone Khursakade, Usgao, bike rider Prashant Ghadi (25) from Tisk-Usgao was seriously injured and has been transferred to GMC in critical condition. The impact of the collision was so severe that Ghadi was flung into the air for three to four metres before crashing onto the road. His helmet shattered, and his bike was extensively damaged in the accident.

It has been reported that Ghadi is an employee and supervisor at a company in Usgao.

The area has become accident-prone, with three incidents in the past six months resulting in two fatalities, making this the fourth horrific accident. Local residents are furious, claiming that authorities are neglecting the issue. They describe the location as a “death trap”, where a narrow road meets a four-lane highway.

The accident occurred around 3:45 pm on Tuesday. Following the collision, locals quickly gathered at the scene and transported the injured rider to the Primary Health Centre in Pilem before rushing him to GMC. It is understood that Ghadi was riding his Duke bike from Ponda towards Tisk-Usgao when a car was travelling towards Ponda from Usgao. Another bike rider, Suraj Naik, who was following behind on a Jupiter scooter, collided with the car after the initial accident and sustained injuries.

Suraj Garad, a local resident, stated, "We have been demanding safety measures for a long time, whether it be widening the road towards Usgao or straightening the sharp curve where the road narrows." Gauresh Salgaonkar added, "This is the fourth major accident in six months, and in the past three accidents, two lives have already been lost. The last incident in June involved a truck running over a pedestrian, whose headless body was dragged for almost one kilometre."
