PONDA: In a tragic incident on Sunday night a wild bison inadvertently came into contact with a fallen overhead electricity wire at Copper Wada, Curti in Ponda.
It is suspected that the bison had strayed searching for food in a monsoon vegetable plantation. Forest officials quickly arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation.
Sudhakar Priolkar, the owner of the vegetable plantation where the bison was found, recounted his experience. He stated that he usually visits his crops at 7 am, but he was stunned to discover the massive animal lying on the ground on Monday morning. Overwhelmed by fear, he immediately fled the area. Upon alerting locals, they came to the grim realization that the bison had died, trapped beneath the fallen electrical wire. Sudhakar said he was lucky to have escaped coming in contact with the live wire.
Charan Desai, a member of the animal rescue squad, assessed the situation and estimated that the bison was between two and three years old. Following the news of the electrocution, employees from the electricity department promptly cut off the power supply to the snapped wire.
Local farmers, known as Mollekars, noted that wild animals often venture into their vegetable fields at night, consuming crops like cucumbers and gosali. However, they had rarely witnessed these creatures in person.
