BITS Pilani is grappling with another tragic loss as 20-year-old student Rishi Nair reportedly died by suicide on campus, marking the fifth student death at the institute within a year.
Earlier cases include Om Priyan Singh (Dec 2024), Atharv Desai (Mar 2025), Krishna Kasera (May 2025, with family alleging foul play), and Kushagra Jain (Aug 2025, classified as an unnatural death). These repeated incidents have raised serious concerns about student well-being, academic pressure, and mental health support on campus.
Students and alumni are urging the administration to take urgent and transparent measures to address systemic issues and implement effective support systems to prevent further tragedies.
The spate of deaths has intensified calls for comprehensive mental health initiatives, improved counseling services, and proactive monitoring of student welfare at one of India’s premier educational institutions.
