PANJIM: All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary and Congress’ Goa Desk In-charge Dr Anjali Nimbalkar on Wednesday accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of creating communal disharmony in Goa inorder to divert people’s attention from Bhutani and Zuari land scam issues.

She alleged that the BJP was unsuccessful of stirring the communal cauldron in Canacona and then tried it out by using former RSS leader Subhash Velingkar to spark religious tension by making defamatory statements against St Francis Xavier.

Addressing a press conference at the party office in the city, she said, “ I am happy that Goans have shown Velingkar the place he deserves. One person speaks something about a certain community and it ignites the whole state,”

Dr Nimbalkar questioned the Chief Minister’s silence on the issue and wondered why the

Goa Police had not taken suo motu cognisance of the case when there are Supreme Court

guidelines directing the men in uniform to act immediately on hate speeches.

She alleged that the BJP Government has turned out to be destroyer of Goa with rapid mass land conversions and hill cuttings and the statement made by former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Goa unit chief Subhash Velingkar was to divert people's attention from these issues.

“It is certain now that Subhash Velingkar who made irresponsible statements, is shielded by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and there is every possibility that he is hiding at the CM’s residence,” Dr Nimbalkar said.

She lashed out at the BJP and questioned the so called “double engine” government and demanded to know where they were when it came to standing up for the common people. “We are against the BJP's divisive policy and want justice for the common people because the entire Goa is on sale,” stated Dr Nimbalkar.
